Holistic Management

At the Rider Ranch, we use regenerative management practices. That means that we are using plants and livestock to build soil. A key part of that is applying the five soil health principles which are:

  • Zero or minimal soil disturbance

  • Keeping the soil covered (litter)

  • Diversity

  • Living plant root as long as possible

  • Livestock integration

To acheive these soil health principles, we manage our grazing using these concepts; grazing period (short), rest period (long), animal impact, and stock density.

Benefits of Grass fed beef

As more research and studies are done, there is more information out about the benefits of grass fed and grass finished beef. I (Melissa) decided that I would go ahead and link some of my favorite online resources, rather than try to rewrite what others have spent years writing and researching. I do want to point out that the benefits are not all about nutrition. As mentioned above, it’s alot about improving soil health but also about the water cycle, cycling carbon, and benefiting the earth that God entrusted to us. So if you are interested in learning more about all of these benefits, click on.
